butterfly park field trip

I went to the Bali Butterfly Park with my classmates. We saw lots of butterflies. My favorite was the sparkly blue ones. It was funny seeing my friend Lotus wearing a butterfly dress.

i respect values of green school

DSC00746

I go to the Green School in Bali. I am learning about taking care of the environment.  I learned how to make moss graffiti but my classroom’s turned into mold. We are going to figure out why it didn’t grow and try again. We think it got too much sun because moss needs a lot of moisture.

I also learned about the IRESPECT values which I’m going to tell you about today. IRESPECT stands for

Green School IRespect Values

I think these are awesome.

Saraswati day and my bali dance

May 2th was Saraswati Day which is another religious day in Bali where the Balinese perform ceremonies like they did on Nyepi with the Ogoh-Ogohs. This day is to worship the goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of knowledge, art, dance, and music. It is interesting that my daddy remembers praying to this goddess too in India. On this day in Bali, girls perform dances at school. We did a special ceremony at the Green School. I was one of the dancers. I danced the Baliness dance named Rejang. I was nervous when we first started practicing, but now that I’m good at it I’m fine. Afterwards, I felt beautiful like the goddess.

Spring [No] Break!

This Spring Break, I had a lot of company. My mom sometimes called it spring-no-break. Then I said “there is no no”.

Over Spring Break, I went to Singapore. We saw my friend Zoe there. We also went to the Gardens by the Bay. We went to the Singapore Zoo too. We went to Smiggle and we swam a lot.

Then we came back to Bali. The next day, I celebrated Easter at the Pan Pacific Hotel near Tanah Lot. I had a sleepover with my friend Denise.

Two days later, my friends Violet and Jasper came. This is their dad. Uncle Todd was very funny.

We all went bowling together.

Then came the day for me to go back to school. My mom said “yeah.” I said “no”.

On April 14th, Violet and Jasper left. Now it is a little quiet at home.

Ogoh-Ogoh’s

Today is Nyepi in Bali, the Balinese New Year. Two days ago, my school had an ogoh-ogoh parade. Ogoh-ogohs scare away your bad sins so that on Nyepi, you are safe from evil spirits. On Nyepi, you’re supposed to be silent, use no electricity and no gas for cooking. If your Banjar is so strict, you’re not allowed to do anything, not even work. You’re supposed to reflect. If your Banjar is not strict, then you’re allowed to do work, play, and sometimes watch tv. Banjars are the village councils in Bali. There are lots of little villages.

But Avik couldn’t keep silent. So for Nyepi, we all went to a hotel where we were allowed to make noise and turn on the lights. Avik was crazy running around and being noisy. I read a lot of Rainbow Fairy books. You can get them on Amazon.

Also, did you that know that this year is 1937 in the Balinese calendar?
